To bet on NBA games with Bitcoin over Lightning, open the NBA prediction markets on Lightning Faucet, fund your balance with a Lightning deposit from any wallet, pick a game, and choose YES or NO on one of the three questions we post for it: who wins, how many points the two teams combine for, or whether the favorite wins by a set margin. Your payout multiplier locks in sats the moment you confirm. When the final score posts, winning bets are credited automatically and you can pull the sats back to your wallet with an LNURL withdraw QR.
Basketball is the sport where our book looks most different from a generic sportsbook, because it is the one sport where we post all three bet types on every game, including a point spread worded as a plain YES/NO question. This guide covers how to read those questions, how the prices are built, and the operator details (when betting closes, what a half-point line means, what happens in overtime) that save you from wrong-side bets.
What an NBA prediction market on Lightning Faucet is
The head term, defined
An NBA prediction market on Lightning Faucet is a YES/NO question about a single NBA game, priced in satoshis and settled over Lightning. You are not holding a token or a contract on a blockchain. You place a bet in sats at a published price, and the real game decides whether YES or NO wins. Stake, payout and balance are all sats from start to finish, so there is no dollar conversion anywhere in the flow.
The three questions we post for a game
- The game winner. Written from the road team's side: "Will [Away team] beat [Home team] on [date]?" YES backs the road team. NO backs the home team. Overtime counts, so basketball always produces a winner.
- The game total. "Will [Away] @ [Home] go over [line] points on [date]?" YES is the over, NO is the under.
- The spread, worded as a margin. "Will [Favorite] win by 4+ points vs [Opponent] on [date]?" This is how we express a point spread without the jargon. A spread of -3.5 becomes "win by 4 or more". YES means the favorite wins by at least that margin. NO means anything else, including the favorite winning by less or losing outright.
Spread and total lines are half-point lines wherever we can, so the question has a clear answer. The spread questions only appear when the bookmaker consensus gives a line of at least 1.5 points, because a one-point or pick'em line is just the winner question in disguise.
During the playoffs we also add series questions such as "Will [Team] win the NBA Championship playoff series vs [Opponent]?". Those run as pooled markets, not fixed odds.
How to place your first NBA bet, step by step
Step 1: Sign in
Email works, but the quickest route is LNURL-auth. Scan the sign-in QR with a Lightning wallet that supports it and your wallet signs a one-time challenge. No password, no email link.
Step 2: Deposit sats over Lightning
Enter an amount on the deposit screen (minimum 100 sats), scan the invoice QR with your wallet, and pay. The balance credits when the payment settles, usually within a couple of seconds. No on-chain confirmations, no deposit address.
If you would rather start without depositing, build a small balance from the free surfaces on the earn page first. Bonus sats carry a playthrough requirement before winnings from them can be withdrawn, so check your balance breakdown if you mix bonus and deposited funds.
Step 3: Open the NBA page and read the wording
Pick a game on the NBA markets page. Read the question word for word before you tap. Say your pick back in the form of the question: "Yes, Denver beats Phoenix" or "No, Denver does not beat Phoenix". It sounds silly, and it prevents most wrong-side bets. The most common mistake is a player who wants the home team tapping YES on a question written from the road team's side.
Step 4: Choose your side and stake
Each side shows a percentage, which is our line's estimate of how likely that outcome is. A lower percentage pays more if it hits. The minimum bet is 10 sats and the maximum on a single game bet is 50,000 sats. Confirm and the bet is placed at the price on screen.
Step 5: Wait for the final and collect
Betting on a game closes five minutes before the scheduled tip. After the game, our settlement job reads the final score and resolves the market. Winning bets are paid with no claim button. Losing stakes are gone and the market shows the result.
Reading the three NBA bet types
Winner: the road-team framing
Because the winner question is always from the road team's side, you will often see NO priced as the favorite, which reflects home court rather than a bias in the book. Back the road team with YES and the home team with NO.
Total: points, pace and overtime
Totals count both teams' final points, overtime included. That matters: a game tied at the end of regulation adds at least five minutes of scoring, and an over that looked dead can come back. If you bet unders, you are also exposed to that tail. The line already reflects typical pace, so treat a total as a view on a specific matchup (two teams that play fast, a back-to-back with tired legs) rather than a general hunch.
Spread: the margin question
The spread question is the one players misread most, so here is the exact rule. We take the favorite and the half-point spread from the bookmaker consensus and round the margin up. A -6.5 favorite becomes "win by 7+". The favorite winning by 6 is a NO. The favorite losing is also a NO. There is no push, because the line is a half point.
One habit worth building: if you like the underdog to keep it close, you are not betting on the underdog to win. You are betting NO on "favorite wins by N+", which also pays if the underdog wins outright.
Fixed odds, explained by the people who price them
Your price locks when you bet
NBA game markets run as a fixed-odds book. Lightning Faucet takes the other side of your bet at the posted line, and the payout multiplier is locked when you confirm. You do not need another player on the opposite side and you are not waiting for a pool to fill. In a pooled market, a late wave of bets on your side can shrink your return after you have bet. In our fixed-odds NBA markets that cannot happen.
Where the line comes from
Our line for each game comes from a consensus of bookmaker prices averaged across books. For spreads and totals we use the line most books agree on, and we only reprice a market on that exact stored line. If the books move to a different number, we do not quietly turn your market into a different bet. The line is refreshed through the day, for example when a star is ruled out, and a refresh only changes the price for new bets. A bet you already placed keeps its locked multiplier.
A simple sat example: if a side returns 2.5 times your stake, a 1,000 sat bet pays 2,500 sats if it wins, which is your 1,000 back plus 1,500 of profit. Everything is shown and paid in sats.
Why timing your bet matters
Because refreshed lines apply only to new bets, betting before injury news keeps the earlier price whichever way the news goes, and betting after means you are pricing in known information. NBA lines react more to rest days and late scratches than most sports, so know which of the two you are doing. Prices are also kept close to the current consensus near tip, so a late bet is priced against the latest information.
Lightning deposits and withdrawals for a late tip-off
Why Lightning fits the schedule
NBA tip times are staggered through the evening, and West Coast games go late. A deposit made ten minutes before tip is in your balance well before betting closes, and a win from a late game can be back in your wallet seconds after it settles.
How withdrawals work
Withdrawing uses LNURL-withdraw. The withdraw page shows a QR code (or a link you tap on mobile). Scan it with your wallet, choose an amount and confirm. Your wallet requests the payment from us, so you never create or paste an invoice. Any LNURL-withdraw capable wallet works, including Wallet of Satoshi, Phoenix, Blink, Zeus and Coinos.
Operator notes that save headaches:
- A failed withdrawal refunds itself. If Lightning cannot find a route to your wallet, the sats return to your balance in about a minute or two. Wait for that before retrying.
- Do not hammer the button. Many attempts in a short window trigger a security hold. Support can lift it for an account in good standing, but it does not clear on its own.
- Large amounts may take more than one withdrawal. A single Lightning payment is capped and daily payout limits apply. The rest stays yours to withdraw later.
How settlement works behind the scenes
From final buzzer to your balance
Once a game's scheduled start has passed, the settlement job looks for a completed final score. We allow a buffer of a few hours after tip for overtime and delays. When the score posts:
- Winner market: YES if the road team's final score is higher, otherwise NO.
- Total market: YES if combined points are above the line, NO if below, full refund if it lands exactly on a whole-number line.
- Spread market: YES if the favorite's winning margin is greater than the spread, otherwise NO.
Payouts are credited in the same pass. You do not need to be online.
Postponements and missing scores
If a game is postponed or cancelled, the market is cancelled and every stake is refunded. If no final score can be confirmed within a day of the scheduled finish, the same refund applies. We never settle a market on a guess.
Beyond a single game
One balance across the site
The same sat balance works everywhere. Between games you can browse every open market on the main prediction markets page, which covers other sports in season along with Bitcoin and weather questions. If you would rather play than predict, Lightning poker runs sat-denominated tables against real players on the same account.
A sensible first session
Sign in with LNURL-auth, deposit a few thousand sats, open the NBA markets, read the question aloud, and place one small bet so you see the whole cycle from locked price to settlement to LNURL withdrawal. Pick a fixed stake in sats, for example 500 or 1,000 per game, set a weekly budget before the first tip, and keep to it rather than chasing a bad night with a bigger bet.
